The Semi-weathering Green and Grey/ Green slate used on this project had just begun to weather at the time of this photo.

The field slate owes its textured look to 3/8" to 1/2" thickness slate of which 20% to 25% are "hang-downs" or "staggered butts."

Staggering the butts -- simply inserting longer-length slate into the courses in a seemingly-random manner, greatly expands the architectural possibilities at a relatively small additional expense.
